I’m a huge Ed Sheeran fan, and I was super excited to listen to his new music after such a long wait and lots of worry over autumn ending without his return.
Castle on the Hill was definitely a change from normal, talking about memories and home, instead of love. But it was a sweet song, and I listened to it on replay for a bit.
There was one part in there that sounded suspiciously like part of the tune from Try Everything by Shakira, and when I listened to the songs at the same time, I could definitely see the resemblance, but they weren’t the same. So that made me smile.
Castle on the Hill got back to Ed’s folk style and it was a softer, mellow song, just the way I like music.
It’s made me very excited for the rest of the album, that’s for sure!
I'm layman in music structure but this one shapes very similar to the structure of some of his other songs like Photograph: calm lead-in with storytelling lyrics building up to chorus part then followed by several high pitches then flowing back to storytelling second part. Before ending there will be some paragraphs of speeding up guitar and back to the symmetrical tone to the starting part. Many other singers’ are probably also like this but Ed Sheeran puts some serious fingerprints on his songs.
You should listen to the radio version he performed at BBC radio 1. It’s insanely good. And oh man his new scar on the face, made the performance even better.
But honestly, he is not having a huge breakthrough. It's still a good one though.
